Dr. Marnel Niles Goins Named Dean of 麻豆传媒 School of Communication

鈥淒r. Marnel Niles Goins is an experienced leader, educator, and communicator who will be an incredible partner for AU鈥檚 School of Communication鈥檚 faculty, staff, and students,鈥 said AU President Sylvia Burwell.

A recognized communication scholar with a deep background in service to the field will lead 麻豆传媒鈥檚 School of Communication. Dr. Marnel Niles Goins was most recently the dean of the College of Sciences and Humanities and professor of Communication at Marymount University. Under her stellar leadership, the college established four new majors and one school, improved retention and enrollment, and increased fundraising and scholarship production. Prior to her appointment at Marymount University, she was a full professor in the Department of Communication at California State University, Fresno.聽聽

鈥淚 am honored and humbled to join 麻豆传媒 and work with the wonderful faculty and staff in the School of Communication,鈥 said Dr. Niles Goins. 鈥淚 look forward to the great things we鈥檒l accomplish together.鈥澛

With nearly 1,500 students and 19 undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs, the School of Communication is a leader in journalism, communications, PR, and media arts studies. Known for its best-in-class curriculum, which is centered around a balance of hands-on experiential learning and in-depth research and analysis students have many opportunities to gain real world experience on- and off-campus to propel them into their post-grad careers. The School of Communication is also home to several groundbreaking academic centers, where students and professors work together on cutting-edge research and produce transformative media in the fields of social justice, environmentalism, gaming, and more.聽聽

鈥淒r. Marnel Niles Goins is an experienced leader, educator, and communicator who will be an incredible partner for AU鈥檚 School of Communication鈥檚 faculty, staff, and students,鈥 said AU President Sylvia Burwell. 鈥淎 changemaker throughout her career, Dr. Marnel Niles Goins will ensure SOC continues to influence change, inspire action, and transform our communities and our world.鈥澛

Dr. Niles Goins specializes in racial and gender dynamics in organizational settings, including higher education. Through her work, she brings to light the intersections of varying oppressions. Her scholarship in Organizational and Small Group Communication engages the Black and Black female communities and aids in increasing the understanding of them as individuals, groups, and organizations. She has remained active in publishing, attending conferences, and serving as a reviewer for communication journals since becoming an administrator.聽聽

Dr. Niles Goins received her PhD in Organizational and Small Group Communication from Howard University, and she earned her BA in Communication with a minor in Mathematics from Oakwood College (now Oakwood University) in Alabama.聽聽

She will begin her new role on July 1, 2024.聽
