You can register through the Venture to Volunteer GivePulse event. Log into GivePulse using your Â鶹´«Ã½ credentials and complete the registration form.

Doing community service is a great way to get to learn about DC issues as well as give back to the city that will be your home for the next few years. Plus, you'll be doing service with a group of other freshmen and transfer students, so you have the opportunity to make some new friends. Explore DC is a great way to get involved in social justice and meet new people.Ìý

Yes, but with limitations. Our LLC students have a different orientation schedule that overlaps with Venture to Volunteer activities. When registering for Venture to Volunteer, make sure to note if you are in an LLC so our team can send you the correct schedule according to your orientation schedule.

When you check in for Venture to Volunteer when you arrive to campus. You'll receive your group assignment and your leaders will inform you of your community visit neighborhood as well as your service site.

Explore DC participants will move into their dorms and register for the event between 9:00am and 4:00pm in the Mary Graydon Center lobby on Tuesday, August 20th.Ìý

Our opening ceremony is on Tuesday, August 20th at 5:30pm. Requests for earlier arrival dates should go through Housing and Dining Programs, 202-885-3370 or housing@american.edu.

Yes, you will be moving into your fall housing assignment with your early move-in date. Early move-in is typically unassisted, so be prepared to move your dorm supplies with your family. You'll also be able to pick up your AUID and U-Pass the day you move in.

Be ready to wear work clothes. Please note that closed-toed shoes are often required at sites. Ask your group leader about what is appropriate to wear to your site. You should also keep in mind that in DC summers tend to be extremely hot and humid, so plan accordingly. You will be provided with a Venture to VolunteerÌýt-shirt to wear on each day of the experience.Ìý

Plan to bring sunscreen, bug spray, money for lunch, and a reusable water bottle to be prepared for the day. Some of you will be inside doing office work, but better to come prepared (plus, you will need all of that throughout the year as well).Ìý

You'll want to plan for $15-$20Ìýa day for your community visit experience and your service experience lunch breaks. Breakfast is provided Wednesday and ThursdayÌýmornings. Your meal plans will cover breakfastÌýduring Venture to Volunteer.

There will be some free time built into your schedule for Venture to Volunteer. On move-in day, the check-in event is drop-in and will only take a few minutes, then you'll be free for the rest of the day. During programming, you'll have some free time for dinner between events off-campus and our optional evening programming.
