Cyber 9/12 Strategy Competition 

鶹ý is taking applications from students at all levels (grad and undergrad) to compete in the March 2023 Atlantic Council Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge.  The Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge is designed to provide a unique opportunity for the next generate of foreign policy and global security leaders to learn and practice the dynamics of cyber statecraft. Student teams are presented with a complex international crisis scenario that will test their ability to analyze intelligence information and to recommend decisions at the highest levels. The competition attracts some of the top cyber security and foreign policy leaders in the field. More information can be found .

鶹ý teams have competed in the DC Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge since its inception in 2013 and have won prizes in every year.

An information session will be held on November 2, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. EST.  Please email Kady Hammer (kh2667c@american.edu) for the Zoom information. 

Applications may be sent to usfp@american.edu with “Cyber 9/12-2022” in the subject line. Please include:

  1. A statement of your interest in the competition
  2. Current CV
  3. A list of the cyber or other related national security or law courses you have taken
  4. The names of one or two AU faculty members who are familiar with your work

The Cyber 9/12 Strategy Challenge is a one-of-a-kind cyber competition designed to provide students from across academic disciplines with a deeper understanding of the policy and strategy challenges associated with management of tradeoffs during a cyber crisis. Part interactive learning experience and part competitive scenario exercise, it challenges students to respond to a realistic, evolving scenario of international cyber crisis, analyze the threat it poses to national, international, and private-sector interests, and provide recommendations on the best course of action to mitigate the crisis.
