Through the generosity of the Pence Family, AUWCL offers an unlimited number of slots in the Yellow Ribbon Program (YRP) with a maximum institutional contribution of up to the cost of tuition and fees during the fall and spring semesters per recipient. The AUWCL contribution will be applied in conjunction with the Post-9/11 GI Bill® tuition and matchingÌýYellow Ribbon benefits. Receipt of Yellow Ribbon with Post-9/11 GI Bill® tuition benefits precludes the payment of other institutional grants/scholarships, including merit and need-based awards.

AUWCL has voluntarily entered into an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs that provides matching funds to eligible students. Only individuals entitled to the maximum benefit rate (based on service requirements) may receive this funding. You may be eligible if:

  • You served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001, of at least 36 months;

  • You were honorably discharged from active duty for a service connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001;

  • You are a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill®.

Per federal regulations, eligible recipients will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis (please note: AUWCL has an unlimited number of slots). Current Yellow Ribbon Program recipients need not reapply and must continue to meet federal and institutional eligibility requirements.

The Yellow Ribbon Program Application for AUWCL is available online. Please click here to access the application and ensure that you save a copy of your submission page as it is a confirmation of your Yellow Ribbon Program application. You must be a current student, or admitted to AUWCL, prior to applying for the Yellow Ribbon Program.

VeteranÌýbenefits are processed and certified through the Veterans Center on Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s main campus.ÌýOnly the certifying officials on main campus may discuss benefit eligibility. Institutional financial aid in combination with tuition only assistance cannot exceed AUWCL tuition.

A certification form must be completed and submitted through main campus before each semester you plan on using VA Education Benefits. Submitting a request for certification without an AU ID may cause a delay in processing your certification. If you do not have an AU ID, please email veterans@american.edu or call 202-885-8017.
